Bargue in the New Year!









Each student enrolled at the Academy of Realist Art, Boston begins with 
Bargue Drawing 101: Drawing from the Flat

This class is designed to introduce the student to the fundamentals of drawing. Students work to develop a thorough understanding of shapes, values, and varying edges in nature. A step- by- step method, which utilizes a precise system of measurement will be used to successfully complete the projects. An introduction to tools and materials will also be covered at the beginning of the course. 

Charles Bargue (1826/27-1883) developed his Cours de Dessin along with Jean-Leon Gerome in the mid 19th Century. The course is comprised of 197 lithographs, divided into three parts. 





Working directly from copies of these lithographs, students in Bargue Drawing 101, draw from the first section of the course which contains plates of casts  (mostly antique sculpture).







Separated into four levels,  students pass from Bargue Drawing 101 through to Bargue Drawing 104. Each level progressing in difficulty.









Bargue class meets on:
 Mondays from 9:30 to 12:30 and 1:30 to 4:30.
Wednesdays from 9:30 to 12:30, 1:30 to 4:30 and 6:00 to 9:00.
