Scholarship Competition

The Academy of Realist Art, Boston has launched its first annual scholarship competition for promising artists with a love for academic style painting and drawing.

The Academy is one of a select few art schools in the world that teaches the academic approach to figure drawing and painting. We model our curriculum and classical techniques on those used by 19th-century European academies to help students master fine art skills.

One scholarship is to be awarded for a year's free tuition (school year, September 2013-June 2014) for our full time program in Boston. Equivalent value is up to $6,150.

  

Contest Rules

Submissions shall be treated as being free of restrictions and limitations on their use and publication. Prizes have no cash surrender value and are not transferable. Any expenses incurred by the winner to claim the scholarship award are the sole responsibility of the individual.

Eligibility

Entries are accepted from the worldwide artist community. Applicants must be 18 years or older by September 2013 and not currently or previously enrolled at any Academy of Realist Art location. Team entries are not accepted.

Submission Deadline

Deadline for submission is March 15, 2013. The winner will be announced March 30, 2013.

Art Submissions

Submissions of representational art are accepted in the following categories:

Figure • Portrait • Still Life

Art work for figure and portrait may be either a drawing or oil painting. Still life submissions must be in oil paint. All submissions must be original and not a copy of an existing work. Artwork must be drawn by hand and not traced or copied using mechanical devices. Submissions are made by sending 3 to 6 un-retouched JPEG* images to:

* JPEG images should be no less than 2000 pixels X 2000 pixels

Entries require a short description in the following format:

artist name - title of work - media - dimensions (expressed in inches)

Submission should include a short biography telling us a little bit about yourself and your art. This must be less than 300 words and include name, address, education and a short explanation of your previous art making activities.

Submission Fees

The entrance fee is $30  (students currently enrolled in high school have no submission fee). 

This payment is made by going to www.academyofrealistartboston and clicking on the contact page. Select the credit card type you will be using and click on it. This takes you to a Paypal page. Once there, input your $30 entrance fee (it says donation but it is the entrance fee), update the total and then you can select to pay by paypal or go to the bottom left corner and under “Don’t have a paypal account?” click continue. This takes you to the page where you input your card information. You will receive a confirmation by email. Please don’t send cash through the mail.
